This time next year.
Welcome back to ThePinkBirdBlog ! I've decided to publish my first book review in English, therefore I apologise for any mistakes I may make. I really love writing and reading in English, that's why I wanted to do a review of the last book I've read in English : This Time Next Year by Sophie Cousens, a romance published in 2020.
In This Time Next Year, we follow the story of Minnie Cooper (unfortunately it is not a joke), born on the 1st of January in 1990, in London. Nevertheless, Minnie's not the only person born on that exact date and time. Indeed, because of Quinn Hamilton, a man that she has never met, her birthday has always been unlucky and her mother did not win the significant amount of money offered to the family of the first baby born in 1990. As the story unfolds, Minnie lives in a flat with her boyfriend Greg and she works as a baker in her own business "No Hard Fillings". However, on her 30th birthday, she runs into Quinn Hamilton at the New Year's Eve party and is immediately attracted to this man to whom everything seems to succeed...
The minute I saw this book at the library, I knew that it would be the perfect feel-good romance that we all love. I've never heard of Sophie Cousens (the author of this novel) before and I was really looking forward to discovering the different characters and the author's writing style. The relationship between Minnie and Quinn is absolutely adorable and I've loved seeing them together, especially when they were swimming because you could really feel the connection between them. The multiple flashbacks allowed me to understand them better. As for the general atmosphere of the book, I particularly liked the winter setting and the fact that the story takes place in London, one of my favourite city in the world. This romance is heart-warming and according to me, it's a great book to read by the fire, with a steaming cup of tea and a good blanket. Finally, I've also appreciated the fact that the author touched on various topics such as friendship, love, success, anxiety and failure.
Thank you so much for reading this book review! I hope you liked it and let me know if you want me to write more reviews in English.
Enjoy your reading!
